I don’t purchase any of these magazines but you do make a good point there is no “fantasy” or “mystery”. There’s a market for everything but a magazine of black women wouldn’t sell like one of white women because white women are viewed as the ideal standards of beauty.

Interesting article. However the mere fact that you have to write about someone such as “Mr. Playboy” is an indictment of our society. Let me qualify my comments by saying that I am a product of the old school. This is a nice way of saying that I am a baby boomer. During my time you had no alternative to Playboy in the black community. Alone comes the civil rights movement and doors start to open for us. As they open, we became exposed to a culture that was foreign to the environment that we lived in. The more exposure we had, the more we absorbed the other culture. Since they had Playboy, we came up with Players (Do they still print it?). The taboos and morally wrong things taught to us by our parents all of a sudden became acceptable. Over a period of time there was virtually nothing that was off limits or unacceptable. I say all of this to say that in the scheme of things, Hefner and his empire has added no value to the well being of mankind. He lives in a fantasy world that has no link to reality. In an indirect way, he has contributed to the current issues of how our beautiful black women are portrayed in videos and the movies. They are more than sex objects, they are mothers and sisters, the backbone of our people. Why campaign for the negative by giving press to such publications. Of course, opinions are just like @$#&*(^$ and everyone has one. Wow, I could not bring myself to spell it out, what does that say about me?
You are correct when you say that the white woman is held as the standard for beauty by society. I know better than most because I grew up when there were no black folks on TV or in commercials. Because of this, my generation was unknowingly brain washed into thinking that if the skin was not fair or the hair straight, it could not be defined as being beautiful or worth anything. Fortunately I have been liberated from such thoughts by the image of beautiful women of color on TV, commercials, ads, and in the movies. Having been married to a beautiful black woman for over 36 years (and she is still turning heads), I have been emancipated from such thoughts and have a new standard.

Crumping’s popular out here in the L.A area but it still looks ridiculous to see these gangstas dancing it looks like they’re having seizures and it’s especially lame when they were clown make up. As for Megan Good, her roles are always identical but I can’t complain she always looks bangin.
I am NOT a fan of M. Good. She seems so very generic. She doesn’t really stand out. I like movies she has been in (Roll Bounce, Deliver Us From Eva & Biker Boyz) but when I see her on screen my nose immediately turns up. She irritates the HELL out of me. I’m sure there is someone else out there that can do as good of a job if not a better job than her.
I had high expectations for this album and was dissapointed but I might give this cd another listen it’ll probably be better than I thought.

This album was still relatively tight. If you put this joint out now in the current state of play n hip-hop it would still be better than most other efforts from today’s crop of rappers. Personally I give you big ups for bein a lady and diggin Nas.

The only song I remember hearing from Kelly’s solo album was the one with Nelly. I always thought Beyonce or Letoya Lucket were the more attractive members of D.C but Kelly is pretty too.
Pharcyde and Souls of Mischief were both good groups the west coast has real diverse music but the backpack rappers are overlooked. It’s sad but out here no one even listens to rappers that don’t rep sets.

i always knew about him from the group blink 182, but i watched his reality show, “meet the barkers” which aired on mtv a few years ago. i like his personality – he parties hard, loves hard, loves his kids and his wife. it’s something about seeing an individual and assuming he’s too hardcore to be emotional but when you see him in these acts of light, it kinda draws you in. so it’s purely off of what i’ve seen of him on tv…

Songs pretty cool. Contemporary R&B can be pretty generic but there are some good artists.
Neyo, Keyshia Cole, Usher, Justin Timberlake, and Frankie J are all pretty good. And Mariah Carrey and Mary J. Blige are still around.

Goodie Mob was eventually stolen from the roomie that stole it from you (but not the roomie you stole it from)
and the Young Blood cd was lost somewhere between Statesboro & Athens, while enroute to their “concert”
I’m sure it doesn’t take that pain away but I do hope that this clears it up for you!

Now, you won't give me the funding needed to hire the teachers who are qualified enough to teach the students the lessons they need to pass the test to keep your job up and running so you can keep our school up and running getting the test scores you need…etc?
How does that work? What am I, as a teacher who wants to see these kids have an education, supposed to do? This is why we need a total reset when it comes to schooling.

I have been that chick… multiple times, and for reasons unknown to be truthful. I didn't realize the damage, because so many men put on the front that they are not hurt and invincible so I guess at that time it never crossed my mind that the same things that would infuriate and deeply hurt me would slide off y'all's back. Oh how wrong I was. I now have grown up and appreciate men for much different reasons than I used to, so Mr. SOB doesn't even get on the porch, let alone the front door….

i think if i've ever been guilty of this, it was because of my young age and mind and not realizing what i needed and deserved in a relationship. and i'm with ms. alise: even tho i'm now married, the dudes i dated back in the day wouldn't get a chance with me today.
why are some men ok with 2nd place tho? is it because they feel they can get everything without the commitment or is it something else?

No one wants to be second no doubt but it is reality nonetheless. It is kind of sad but I would have to say that I have been that girl but now being a woman I am able to look at these situations with better understanding. It was generally an EGO trip. I one was no so secure with who I was and it was always nice to have Mr. Nice Guy to tell me how awesome I was. Now I know that was not fair to that guy. I also know how it feels to not be someone's first choice because I wasnt considered to what he though of as a “dime”.
Now being a woman comfortable in my own skin I know better and no longer willing to settle or be settled for. When you no better you do better.
